Meet Our Elephants

At Chiang Mai Elephant Care, every elephant has a unique story. Some were rescued from hard work, while others were born into a new life of freedom. Today, they live peacefully in a natural environment where they can walk, eat, play, and simply be elephants again.

Visitors will learn about:

  • Elephant history and rescue stories
  • Elephant behavior and intelligence
  • The strong bond between elephants and their caretakers

Learning these stories helps visitors understand the importance of protecting elephants and supporting ethical tourism.

We currently care for three wonderful elephants who are part of our family.

Lucky – The Baby Elephant

Born: May 1st, 2024

Lucky is the youngest member of our elephant family. He was born at the sanctuary and represents hope for a better future for elephants.

Lucky is playful, curious, and loves staying close to his mother, Sbothor. Like many baby elephants, he enjoys exploring the forest, splashing in the mud, and learning how to use his trunk.

Visitors love watching Lucky grow and discover the world around him. His birth reminds us why protecting elephants is so important for future generations.

Sbothor – Lucky’s Loving Mother

Age: 16 years

Sbothor is a gentle and caring mother who once worked in the elephant riding tourism industry. For many years she carried tourists on her back, which is hard work for elephants.

Now at Chiang Mai Elephant Care, Sbothor can finally live a more natural life. She spends her days walking in the forest, eating fresh grass and leaves, and caring for her baby Lucky.

She is calm, friendly, and very protective of her young son.

Mo Ah Po – The Wise Elephant

Age: 30 years

Mo Ah Po is the oldest elephant at the sanctuary. For many years she worked in the logging industry, where elephants were used to move heavy trees in the forest.

After years of hard labor, Mo Ah Po now enjoys a peaceful life. She spends her days slowly walking through nature, eating her favorite foods, and relaxing in the shade.

Her experience and gentle personality make her a special member of the herd.
